Correspondence, Pond and Norton family deeds, and financial papers of the Pond family of Connecticut together with records pertaining to the town of Wolcott. The papers also contain a partial autobiography of Peter Pond (1740-1807) describing his experiences in the French and Indian War and as a fur trader in the northwest.

Born in Milford, Conn., Jan. 18, 1740. After serving in French and Indian wars, he became a fur trader in Detroit. In 1778 he established the first post in the Athabaska country; in 1783 he became a partner in the North West Co., but the murder of John Ross by some of his men in 1787 (the second with which he had been connected) caused his retirement, and in 1790 he sold his share to Wm. McGillivray. He returned to the U.S., and became a special Indian agent. He died in New England about 1807, p...
